WHAT’S NEW IN ECE
We are making some exciting changes in the online Early Childhood Education Program and want to make sure you are aware of the changes to the program, procedures, and the additional support available to ECE students.
Integration with the School for Professional Studies
The online Early Childhood Education Program (previously Child Development Program) has integrated with the School for Professional Studies (SPS), which offers accelerated programs on campus and caters to adult learners, both in academics and support services. Many of the exciting changes are due to this exciting merger, including a great increase in support available to our students.

Online Registration
Starting Spring 2012, we are moving to an online registration form. All information will now be able to be submitted online. You will need to select the classes you are planning to take for the entire semester in preparation for registration. Spring 2012 Registration will be available online on the ECE website December 2nd.
NOTE: Continuing Certificate students will need to complete registration with the Student Services Coordinator. They can be reached at (714) 668-6130
Online Payment
The ECE program is integrating with the rest of Vanguard University’s payment policies and procedures. Effective Spring 2012, the ECE office will no longer be handling payments or accepting credit card payments by phone/fax. The Office of Accounting Operations at Vanguard will be handling student accounts through either direct payment to cashier (mailed check) or by paying online through “MyBill,” which can be accessed through your MyVU portal. MyBill includes both pay in full and tuition payment plan options.
You can now pay in one of the following ways:
Cash/Check: You may pay in full by mailing in cash/check to: Vanguard University, Attn: Cashier, 55 fair Dr. Costa Mesa, Ca 92626
Credit/Debit Card Payment through Sallie Mae: Pay with Discover, MasterCard, or American Express on our Tuition Pay website (convenience fees apply). VISA is not accepted. (Accessed through MyVU Portal)
Tuition Payment Plan: Select a tuition payment plan to spread out your semester charges into multiple installments throughout the semester. There is a $70 enrollment fee to sign up for a payment plan each semester. (Accessed through MyVU Portal)
NOTE: We are no longer able to take credit card payments by phone, fax, or mail. All credit/debit card payments must go through Sallie Mae.
Drop/Refund Policy Change
We are happy to announce an amendment to our Drop/Refund Policy, in conformity with the existing SPS policies. As of Spring 2012, students needing to drop prior to the start of week 2 will be eligible for a 50% tuition refund and students needing to drop prior to the start of week 3 will be eligible for a 25% tuition refund. For details on the Drop/Refund policy, please see Updated ECE Policies.
Extra Support
We are excited to be able to provide additional support for you as a Vanguard student.
Student Center: Our website features a “Student Center” tab where you will now find Curriculum Guides (syllabi) for each class, available for download before you are able to log into your class. You will also find calendars of current and future semester classes, transcript information, and forms.
Writing Center: The Writing Center is an essential resource to utilize for proofreading papers and getting feedback on assignments. Submissions can be made to writingcenter@vanguard.edu and the response time is normally within 48 hours.
Student Services Coordinator: The student services coordinator’s role is to provide support, academic advising, and assistance in communication with other VU departments such as Financial Aid and the Accounting Office. If you are unsure who to contact for a particular issue or question, the coordinator is your first contact. Your coordinator, Janae McCabe can be reached at janae.mccabe@vanguard.edu.
Re-Admit Policy
Beginning Spring 2012, we will institute the SPS re-admit policy for Certificate Students, which states that if you take a full semester off from Vanguard, you will be required to complete the re-admit process, including an application, $20 application fee, and any additional requirements based on your prior departure from Vanguard. If you do need to take a semester off, please let your student services coordinator know so they will be able to help you through the re-admit process when you are ready to return.
